The SCJGA offers programs to help junior golfers advance in their golfing careers no matter what level the player is currently.
Player Card – This is part of our $10 membership packet. It gives you access to many golf courses across South Carolina at a discounted rate. Shop and range discounts are also available at some facilities. This card also gives you the chance to compete in SCJGA events.
Golf In Schools – Last year the SCJGA was able to conduct one day introductions to golf at various schools across the state, at no cost to the schools. The introductions take place during PE classes where students are given a brief history of the game, description of all equipment, safety precautions, and basic guidelines for grip, posture, alignment, and full swing. At the end of class all students are allowed to practice what they were taught and attempt to hit a golf ball. We also leave behind equipment at each school for future use. The equipment used in this program is made possible from a grant by the Dustin Johnson Foundation. If you would like the SCJGA to come to your school for a day please have your Principal or PE Teacher contact the SCJGA and ask about the Golf in Schools Program.
Clubs 4 Kids – The Clubs 4 Kids Program is made possible due to an annual grant from the Carolinas Golf Association. Clubs 4 Kids is designed to introduce youngsters to this great game and to provide equipment so that they may continue to play. At each session, juniors receive free clubs, free instruction, and information about all of our programs. Contact the SCJGA office at (803) 732-9311.
Team Series – The Team Series (formally known as the ‘Little Legends Series’) is a fun introduction to team competition and on course play for boys and girls ages 6-12 . Teams will be randomly made up of players based on experience and playing ability within each local division. Teams will compete for six to eight weeks, playing six holes each week while adhering to a Captains Choice format. This program is designed to introduce beginners to competition.
Junior Golf Series -“Junior Golf Series ” events, formally known as chapter events, are conducted beginning the first week in June. Members compete in age groups and accumulate points for All Stars. The All Stars Championship is a north/south event held at the end of the season and brings together youth from across the state. Without the efforts of Hootie & the Blowfish, our Chapter directors and their volunteers, the “Chapter Program” would not exist. Hootie & the Blowfish continues to better this program for the second consecutive year with a special grant. This grant will be dispersed evenly among the twenty chapters and used to hire an intern to help in tournament operations. We appreciate all their efforts in making this program possible.
One Day Tournament Series – The Heritage Classic Foundation expanded their reach into junior golf support by coming on board as the title sponsor of the SCJGA One Day Series. These low cost events allow players to climb the HCF Standings with 18 hole events across the state during the year, typically on off days from school. These events will also exempt players into several major SCJGA events—therefore taking place of an additional qualifying round.
The purpose of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association is to continue the history and traditions of the ancient game of golf through its members and an active outreach to the youth of our state.
Through affordable opportunities of play, instruction and competition, juniors of all ages, walks of life and skill levels will be touched by the character of the game. It helps to teach them honor, sportsmanship and respect and make them better prepared to face the challenges ahead in life.
