Perfect fall weather was the order of the day as Matthew Nesmith and Chandler Brazeal captured the 15th playing of the SCJGA Tradition Four Ball. Brazeal had nine birdies on his own ball over the weekend to help hoist their team over the runner up squad of Colin Witiak and Carson Joye. The overall girls title was won by McKenzie Talbert and Morgan Webber after they fired a second round 67. The formidable team won by six shots. The teams competed on the Linkside Golf Course of Pebble Creek Country Club.
The younger brackets had some great play as well. The boys 13-14 bracket had Carson Young and Austin Langdale on top after they finished regulation play at 137, three clear of second place. The boys 10-12 division needed extra play as the team of Proveaux and Phillips tied the Self-Weede grouping. Coleman Self canned the 15 footer to gain the victory. The youngest girl’s group, ages 11-13, has Lauren Stephenson and Kelli Murphy as the 2009 champs after shooting 69.
The Tradition Four Ball dates back to 1995 and players such as Lucas Glover, Bill Haas, DJ Trahan, and Kyle Thompson have all been part of this must play championship. Glover actually won the inaugural event with Jeremy Revis as a partner. Tournament Chair, Rick Vieth, has built a great event over the past 15 years thanks to the many volunteers and the membership of Pebble Creek. Bill Knupp and his company BB&T Barnes Insurance is back again as the title sponsor and the event would not be a success without their vital involvement. They have been one of the SCJGA’s longest running sponsors, many thanks go out to the entire organization.
