Austin Langdale (Townville) and his partner, Carson Young (Pendleton) started the day with a one stroke lead and went to work quickly. A front nine 30 separated the team pretty quickly from the field. A lone birdie on the back nine finished the team dressed in Clemson Orange with a consecutive 65 and a seven stroke margin of victory. The overall girl’s title went to Kelli Murphy (Elgin) and Reona Hirai (Summerville) after they fired 65 to post a 138 total. Murphy had five birdies on her own ball on the front nine to help separate the team from their nearest competitors. The boys 13-14 division started the day tied at 69. Winn Taylor (Greenville) and Jimmy Self (Greenwood) held on to win thanks to four birdies on their day. Their 137 total was strokes clear of second.
John Parrott and Ryan Marter, both of Columbia, captured the nine hole division by an impressive 7 shots with a two day total of 67. Each player made a contributing birdie to help finish at 34 for the day.
The Tradition Four Ball dates back to 1995 and players such as Lucas Glover, Bill Haas, DJ Trahan, and Kyle Thompson have all been part of this must play championship. Glover actually won the inaugural event with Jeremy Revis as a partner. Tournament Chair, Rick Vieth, has built a great event over the past 17 years thanks to the many volunteers and the membership of Pebble Creek. Bill Knupp and his company BB&T Barnes Insurance is back again as the title sponsor and the event would not be a success without their vital involvement. They have been one of the SCJGA’s longest running sponsors, many thanks go out to the entire organization.
