2012 Fall Challenge

It was a beautiful day at the State Park and Moree’s Cheraw Country Club, just ask Keenan Huskey and Reona Hirai. Keenan(Greenville) fired an impressive five under par 68 to win by three over Easley’s Trace Crowe to win the Boys 15-18 title. Dressed in his traditional Sunday black outfit, Keenan knew he needed to keep making birdies as he was hearing some players were playing well in the group in front. His four birdies and five pars were enough to keep him ahead rest of the field.

Reona Hirai of Summerville cruised to victory in the Girls 14-18 bracket, finishing four shots better than her next competitor. A steady round of even par helped Reona take her second SCJGA title of the year.

In the Boys 13-14 division, Alec Weary(Bluffton) had four birdies in a row but still came up one short of Greenville’s Stephen Reynolds. Reynolds shot a two under par 71 to bring his two day total two under par for the event.

Across the street at Moree’s, Dixon Flowers from Sumter fired a two under par 32 to nip Darlington’s Grainger Howle by one stroke in the Boys 10-12 bracket. The Castle sisters from West Columbia continued their tradition of carrying home trophies from Cheraw. The elder Castle, Jensen won the Girls 11-13 division and the younger; Jalen, captured the Girls 8-10 title. Zach Adams of Rock Hill brought home his first SCJGA title in the Boys 8-9 division.

The tournament has been chaired by SCGA Board Member Robby Bennett since inception and the hospitality shown from the town is a true reflection of Mr. Bennett, both golf courses, and volunteers that help put this must play championship on the competitive calendar.
