563750_4538470094693_1759591382_nThe 19th playing of the Ford Picard Parent Child championship was off to a perfect start. With weather and course conditions perfect, Winn and Stuart Gibbs fired the only nine hole score under par to finish at one over 73 to claim the Parent Child Championship. The format was select drive, alternate shot that tested the best of teams. Their one stroke margin of victory puts their name on the perpetual Frank Ford trophy that was so graciously donated by the Ford Family of Charleston.

The second round was a different story all together. The Picard Junior was met with blustery winds and cold temperatures that made for extremely tough scoring. Kelli Murphy added her name to the Picard Trophy for a second time when her 4 over 76 was good enough to take the overall title. The Elgin native also won the championship in 2010.  Justin Hood of St Matthews managed to get around with 5 bogeys on the card for 77 to capture the overall boy’s championship. Seneca’s Jackson Tyler won the 13-14 boys division while Drayton Stewart of Charleston squeaked out a one shot victory in the 12 and under bracket.

563719_4543082850009_1878164103_nThe Links Course of Wild Dunes has been the host facility since inception and has been a vital part of the SCGA family of host golf courses. Polly’s Fine Jewelry is back again as the title sponsor for both rounds of the tournament. The first day’s festivities are named for seven time SCGA Amateur Champion Frank Ford with a parent – child format. The second day’s event is named after Mr. Henry Picard who was one of the top SC golfers of all time as he won the Masters tournament, numerous PGA titles, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.  The second round of the tournament is for juniors only in an individual stroke play event as part of the Ford Picard Christmas Classic.

The Ford -Picard paves the way for youngsters to grow in the game and learn about our great SC players that came before them.  Two former SCGA Amateur Champions played in the inaugural event in 1994 as juniors, Alex Hamilton and Emmett Turner.
