ANDERSON, SC (Oct. 9, 2022) – Final round results of the 2nd Annual Jackie Seawell Junior Championship hosted by Cobb’s Glenn Country Club in Anderson, SC on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

One shot back entering the final round, Davis Petty of Spartanburg fired a final round 33 with 4 birdies. The defending champion finished the tournament at four-under par 68 to win the boys 10-12 division for the second consecutive year.
Cullen Beck of Greenville claimed runner-up in this division, finishing at one-under par 71 overall. Beck shot 37 in his final round.
Zoey Meldrum of Aiken finished the tournament at 14-over par 86 to be crowned champion of the girls 10-12 division. Starting the day one shot back, Meldrum fired a final round 42 to come from behind and claim victory.
Kinley Brazell of Blythewood finished the day at 10-over par 46 to take second place in this division. Overall, she posted 17-over par 89 for the tournament.
Entering the day with a one-shot lead, Marissa Scaletta of Belton posted a final round of five-over par 77 to claim the first-place title in the girls 13-15 division and take home her first SCJGA win. Overall, she carded nine-over par 153 for the tournament.
Posting an overall score of 11-over par 155, Robin Zetrouer of Bluffton took second place in this division and finished the final round at five-over par 77.
In the boys 13-15 division, Charles Cauthen of Columbia fired a five-under par 67 on his final round. He finished the event at seven-under par 137 to claim victory in this division. He had four birdies and an eagle today.
Harrison James of Chapin and Erik Erlenkeuser of Anderson tied for second place in this division at one-over par 145 for the tournament.
Chuck Stanley of Warrenville shot two-under par 142 to take the boys 16-18 division. Stanley carded a final round two-under par 70 with four birdies and an eagle.
Henry Hall of Greenville finished runner up in the boys 16-18 division shooting one-under par 143 with a final round of four-under par 68.
About Jackie Seawell
The Jackie Seawell Junior was created after Mr. Seawell’s passing on June 14, 2021, to honor him and his contributions to golf in Anderson, Aiken, and the state of South Carolina.The SCJGA is honored to be able to help administer a tournament named after one of our state’s great golf ambassadors.
Jackie Seawell, a native of Anderson, was the first golf professional at Cobb’s Glen Country Club in Anderson. During his long and successful career, he had a major and lasting impact on junior golf in Anderson and the state of South Carolina. He was dedicated to the game of golf and had a true passion for teaching and growing the game.
Mr. Seawell attended Anderson Boys’ High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina. At Boys’ High, he served as student body president and was MVP of the football and golf teams. He was a member of the Boys’ High 1959 state championship team. At the University of South Carolina, he was a four-year letterman and captain of the golf team. He won the 1964 South Carolina Intercollegiate individual title and led the Gamecocks to the 1964 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
After leaving Anderson, Mr. Seawell was the golf professional at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, director of golf at Sage Valley in Aiken and then became of the owner of Houndslake Country Club in Aiken.
Mr. Seawell received numerous awards and recognitions during his career. He was a member of the T.L. Hanna Athletics Hall of Fame, received the Thomas Hitchcock and William C. Whitney Palmetto Golf Club Award, the Golf Week Father of the Year Award, the University of South Carolina Department of Athletics Extraordinary Contributions Award and was honorary captain of the South Carolina PGA Palmetto Cup team. In 1998, Mr. Seawell was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in recognition of his service to golf, the thousands of lives he impacted and his many accomplishments.

The purpose of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association is to continue the history and traditions of the ancient game of golf through its members and an active outreach to the youth of our state. Established in 1990 by community leaders with a love for the game and a commitment to passing on golf’s heritage to the youth of South Carolina, the SCJGA is committed to meeting the needs of all young people in the state and providing playing opportunities to boys and girls that might not otherwise have the chance to experience golf and its many benefits.
