ANDERSON, SC (Oct. 8, 2022) – First round results of the 2nd Annual Jackie Seawell Junior Championship hosted by Cobb’s Glenn Country Club in Anderson, SC on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

This morning, Cobb’s Glen Country Club welcomed 121 players for the second edition of the Jackie Seawell Junior Championship.
In the boys 10-12 division, Cullen Beck of Greenville holds the first-round lead posting a two-under par 34 after nine holes. Beck had two birdies and an eagle in round one and holds a one-shot lead over Spartanburg’s Davis Petty heading into the final round.
Kinley Brazell of Blythewood posted 7-over par 43 for the first round to lead the girls 10-12 division.
Arley Jennings of Spartanburg and Zoey Meldrum of Aiken are both tied for second, both carding 8-over par 44 today.
Dawson Szabo of Greer leads the boys 13-15 division by one shot, posting three-under par 69 for round one. He had seven birdies in his round.
Charles Cauthen of Columbia sits alone in second place shooting 2-under par 70 in his opening round.
Each posting even par 72, Cam Baker of Tega Cay, Tag Graziano of Hilton Head and Chuck Stanley of Warrenville are all tied for the lead in the boys 16-18 division.
D.J. Belcher of Simpsonville shot an opening round of 73 and sits one shot back of the leaders in second place all alone.
In the girls 13-15 division, Marissa Scaletta of Belton finished round one at four-over par 76 to lead this division. She had three birdies and holds a one-shot lead heading into the final round.
Mia Carles of Clinton sits in solo second in this division, posting 5-over par 77 for round one.
The final round of the Jackie Seawell Junior Championship begins tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. off #1 and #10.
About Jackie Seawell
The Jackie Seawell Junior was created after Mr. Seawell’s passing on June 14, 2021, to honor him and his contributions to golf in Anderson, Aiken, and the state of South Carolina.The SCJGA is honored to be able to help administer a tournament named after one of our state’s great golf ambassadors.
Jackie Seawell, a native of Anderson, was the first golf professional at Cobb’s Glen Country Club in Anderson. During his long and successful career, he had a major and lasting impact on junior golf in Anderson and the state of South Carolina. He was dedicated to the game of golf and had a true passion for teaching and growing the game.
Mr. Seawell attended Anderson Boys’ High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina. At Boys’ High, he served as student body president and was MVP of the football and golf teams. He was a member of the Boys’ High 1959 state championship team. At the University of South Carolina, he was a four-year letterman and captain of the golf team. He won the 1964 South Carolina Intercollegiate individual title and led the Gamecocks to the 1964 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
After leaving Anderson, Mr. Seawell was the golf professional at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, director of golf at Sage Valley in Aiken and then became of the owner of Houndslake Country Club in Aiken.
Mr. Seawell received numerous awards and recognitions during his career. He was a member of the T.L. Hanna Athletics Hall of Fame, received the Thomas Hitchcock and William C. Whitney Palmetto Golf Club Award, the Golf Week Father of the Year Award, the University of South Carolina Department of Athletics Extraordinary Contributions Award and was honorary captain of the South Carolina PGA Palmetto Cup team. In 1998, Mr. Seawell was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in recognition of his service to golf, the thousands of lives he impacted and his many accomplishments.
