In the boys 13-18 division, Connor Rose of Greer and Matthew Baxley of North Augusta each finished the second round with an overall score of two-over par 142 to co-lead the boys division. They hold a one-shot lead heading into the final round tomorrow.
“My front nine was good and my back nine was bad today,” said Rose. “The wind started picking up on my back nine and I kind of fell apart, but I’m excited for tomorrow and look forward to playing with Matthew and Drew.”
“I definitely didn’t hit it very good today,” said Baxley. “But I was able to get it up and down a lot and make a couple par putts to save the round. If I can hit my driver the way I did today and make a few birdies, tomorrow will be good.”
Drew Jeffords of Florence fired two-under par 68 today to hold the third-place position in the boys division. Overall, he is three-over par 143 for the tournament.
Anne Fernandez of Bluffton remains in the lead in the girls 13-18 division firing an impressive second round score of four-under par 66. She is two-under par 138 overall for the tournament and holds a 16-shot lead heading into the final round tomorrow.
“I’m super proud of my round today,” said Fernandez. “I was striking the ball really well; I had all my irons within 12 feet today and gave myself some good birdie chances. Tomorrow I’m just going to try and keep playing my game, correct my mistakes from today and see how low I can go.”
Akiera Sanchez of Charleston posted a second-round score of eight-over par 78 to hold the second-place position in the girls division. Overall, she is 14-over par 154 for the tournament.

About the Jimmy Self Invitational
Named in honor of a man who gave so much to golf, the Jimmy Self Invitational was originally one of the top high school tournaments in South Carolina and has now become one of the SCJGA’s major junior championships. The 54-hole event has been presented by Greenwood Development since its inception. The original idea was to rotate the tournament’s location between Greenwood Development properties in Charleston, Greenwood and Hilton Head Island. This year’s competition at Palmetto Dunes continues the Jimmy Self Invitational’s legacy, adding to South Carolina’s rich history of amateur and junior golf.
