Bennett Scaletta of Belton finished the day at one-under par 71 to be crowned champion of the boys 10-12 division. He had six birdies and posted the only under-par round in this division.
“It was a great round,” said Scaletta. “My wedges were really good, I just kept hitting them inside 15 feet. The front nine was a grind but I was able to finish it out with a birdie. It feels great to be the champion and gives me a lot of confidence going forward as I move up to the 13-14 age group.”
Landry Williams of Bluffton took second place in this division finishing the round at even-par 72 after a scorecard playoff.
Karsyn Herron of Graniteville claimed victory in the girls 10-12 division finishing with a score of 13-over par 85.
“I played a lot better on the front nine after we took a break,” Herron said. “I was able to work on some of the mistakes I made on the back which was good. It feels good and exciting to be the champion. I’m excited to come back and play in this tournament again and I had a lot of fun playing with my friends today.”
AC Peake of Pauline finished in second place in this division with a score of 18-over par 90 after a scorecard playoff.
In the boys 13-14 division, Charles Cauthen of Columbia and Hugh Faulkner of Greenville emerged round one co-leaders, each carding one-over par 73.
Mason Kucia of Indian Land and Harrison James of Chapin each finished the day at two-over par 74 to sit T3 in this division.
Sydney Roberts of Chesnee fired an impressive seven-under par 65 to lead the girls 13-18 division. The defending champion posted the low score of the day across all divisions and carded seven birdies to hold a seven-stroke lead heading into the final round.
Hannah Altman of Lake City and Taylor Reaves of Conway sit tied for second, each posting even-par 72 for round one.
Coleman Ferguson of Columbia had four birdies and an eagle to lead the boys 15-18 division. He posted a first round score of one-under par 71 and holds a one-stroke lead heading into the final round.
Tag Graziano of Hilton Head, Luke Sullivan of Columbia, Harris Holstein of Orangeburg, Waymon Thomas of Mt. Pleasant and Matthew Baxley of Beech Island each finished the day at even-par 72 to sit T2 in this division.
The final round of the Players Championship for the boys 13-14, 15-18 and girls 13-18 divisions begins tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. off #1 and #10 tee.
