Smithfields Country Club welcomed 120 players this morning for the first round of the Upstate Junior Classic. Aiken Golightly (Rock Hill) posted an even-par 72 to take the round one lead in the boys 15-18 division. Lexington’s Mavrick Mullinax and Jackson Scaletta of Belton each stand T2, posting two-over par 74. A host of other competitors are within striking distance headed into tomorrow’s final round.
The girls 13-18 age bracket is set for an exciting finish tomorrow. Lexington’s Alexis Hodge sits at five-over par 77, currently holding a two-stroke lead over formidable competitors Emily Baker (Chapin) and Greer native Raquel Fowler.
In the boys 13-14 division, Will Ruth (Moore) leads at the halfway point at five-over par 77. One-stroke behind is Hilton Head’s, Cade Kriscunas.
After today’s nine-hole round in the boys 12 and under division, Owen Atkinson of Columbia finished the day two-over par 74 to lead round one in this division. Lurking closely behind at three-over par is Spartanburg native, Kingston Linder.
Final round tee times will begin at 7:30 A.M. off the first tee. The top seven finishers in the Boys 15-18 division will qualify for the 23rd Annual Blade Junior Classicas well as the top finishing lady that has not already qualified.
