Hilton Head Island, S.C. – Deja vu was the theme of the day for the opening round of the Sea Pines Junior Heritage at the Davis Love, III designed Atlantic Dunes at Sea Pines Resort. Players were greeted with brisk temperatures and chilling rain stepping onto their respective tees to begin their round. Temperatures were low, and the leaderboard would reflect the same as the field didn’t show any sign of the frigid temperatures and wet conditions being a factor.
Taking a one-shot lead into the final round, Buggy Reinke of Rock Hill, South Carolina sits tied with Molly Hardwick of Franklin, Tennessee after posting opening rounds of one-over par (73). Reinke jumped on the birdie train on her final nine holes, carding red numbers on four of her last five holes. Hardwick remained consistent throughout her round, making a birdie on her final hole to join Reinke in the final pairing Sunday. Reinke and Hardwick will have some heat on their heels as Tennessee’s Kynadie Adams will join the final pairing in a battle for the title, sitting just one shot back after an opening round two-over par (74).
Winter-like elements would not disrupt Jack Turner (Orlando, FL) as he was the only player to break 70 today, carding a three-under par 69. Turner holds a one shot lead over the Boys Division and will face a packed leaderboard in the final round. Joining Turner in the final pairing is local standout, reigning South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Champion and University of Alabama commit Jonathan Griz (Hilton Head Island, SC). Griz carded consistent nines to slide into a tie of second with North Carolina State University commit Caleb Surratt (Indian Trail, NC) at two-under par (70).
The final round of the Sea Pines Junior Heritage will begin at 8:30am off of hole one and 10 at Harbour Town Golf Links.
