GREENWOOD, SC—Warm temperatures, sunny skies, and tough scoring conditions continued to be a theme of the weekend at The Links at Stoney Point for the Fall Challenge. Not a single one of the 53 competitors broke par on the par-72, 5,447-yard layout.
Emma Schimpf (Daniel Island) emerged victorious from a crowded leaderboard for her second victory in as many starts. A roller-coaster front nine that consisted of four birdies, one bogey, and one double-bogey left Schimpf as the solo leader with nine holes to play. The Daniel Island native made six pars, one birdie, and two bogeys on her inward nine to take the title by a single stroke over Kennedy Gooding (Lexington). Gooding made it interesting down the stretch, carding a birdie on the 15th hole to pull within one stroke.
Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path) rounded out the top-three finishers with two solid rounds of two-over par (74). McGaha now has a runner-up and solo-third place finish in consecutive years at the Fall Challenge.
The final five exemptions in the SCJGA’s 2020 Major Championship season finale, the Players Championship in Hartsville, were up for grabs at the Fall Challenge as well. Those spots were earned by Hannah Altman (Lake City), Emily Anne Beiers (Lexington), Olivia Pellerin (Greenville), Bridget Wilkie (Bluffton), and Madison Dixon (Boiling Springs). The SCJGA would like to extend a special thanks to The Links at Stoney Point for their continued hospitality and hosting the Girls Fall Challenge.
Cheraw, SC – Warm temperatures and clear skies continued to be a theme for the final round of the 26th Annual Cheraw Fall Challenge.
First Round leader Zach Phillips (Inman) picked up right where he left off in round one. Phillips, a recent USC Upstate commitment, shot two-under par 34 on his front nine with birdies on his second and seventh hole. Columbia’s Adam Hunt matched Phillips front nine to stay within one shot of the lead heading into the back nine.
Phillips made all pars on his final nine to finish at five- under par 139 and take a two shot victory . Griffin Tarver (Tega Cay) closed out his round with a one-under par 35 on his back nine to finish in second all alone at three-under par (141). Adam Hunt would birdie his 36th hole to finish in third all alone at two-under par (142), one shot clear of Greenville’s Tip Price. This victory gives Phillips his second consecutive SCJGA title, coming two months after winning the Harvey Brock Orange Jacket Classic.
