Anderson, S.C. — The final round of the 13th Annual Harvey Brock Orange Jacket Classic contested at The Club at Brookstone in Anderson, South Carolina had a brisk fall breeze that quickly turned into a beautiful blue sky day for competitors.
Continuing to add to her already stellar 2020 summer season, Chloe Holder (Anderson) fired a final round three-under par (69) to coast to the Girls13-18 Division winner’s circle and become the first back-to-back winner of the Orange Jacket Classic. Holder, an Augusta University commit, carded three birdies and one eagle on her round, edging Isabella Britt (Chesnee) and Kennedy MaGaha (Honea Path) who tied for second place.
The Boys 15-18 Division showcased an up and down round with multiple lead changes and some solid finishes. Zach Phillips (Inman), who was two shots back after the first round ultimately outplayed the field to clinch his first SCJGA individual championship. After being two over par on the day through 13 holes, Phillips fired a great second shot into the par-five 14th and drained the eagle putt. He then followed that up with birdies on the final two holes to finish the day two under par and three under for the tournament. Luke Sullivan (Columbia) also fired two birdies in his final five holes and added an eagle on the final par-five 18th to finish the tournament two under par and one shot off the lead. Day one leader, Max Green (Hilton Head) slipped on his front nine but still played well enough to finish the tournament even overall and alone in third place.
Remaining consistent from day one into his final round, Dallas Johnson (Mt. Pleasant) would capture the Boys 13-14 Division carding another two-over par round of 74 to take the title by one shot. Mason Kucia (Indian Land) and first round co-leader Hugh Faulkner (Greenville) finished tied for second one shot back. Johnson made it interesting making bogey on three of the final four holes but a birdie on the 36th and final hole propelled him to victory.
Holding onto his first round lead, Will Ruth (Moore) extended his lead and captured the Boys 12 and Under Division by four shots. Dawson Szabo (Greer) and Gaines Reed (Lancaster) would round out the top-three.
The Girls 12 and Under Division also crowned the first round leader, as Ella Kate Barnett (Galivants Ferry) stretched her lead, capturing the title by 12 shots over Skylar Martin (Walhalla) who finished in 2nd place and Ella Kate Green (Hilton Head Island) who would go on to finish in third.
The tournament has been hosted since the inaugural event in 2008 by the AAG Golf Group who owns and manages three upstate courses – Boscobel Golf Club, Falcon’s Lair Golf Course and Pickens Country Club. The event was named in honor of long-time Boscobel golf professional Harvey Brock who served the club for over 60 years and introduced thousands of kids and beginning golfers to the game. Former champions include multiple successful collegiate golfers as well as some current professionals, notably Matthew NeSmith, Corbin Mills, Carson Young and Andrew Novak.
