Blythewood, SC—Low scoring and low temperatures were the theme of the day for South Carolina’s best young players at Columbia Country Club for the 22nd Annual Pee Wee Championship. A frost delay pushed the start on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to approximately 9:15, but it did nothing to diminish the excellent scoring that took place.
The round of the day in the Boys 8-9 Age Division belonged to Davis Petty (Spartanburg), as he posted a three-under par 65 to win his bracket by 5 shots over Connor Wolfe (Blythewood) who shot 70 to finish runner-up. Thomas DeMint (Greenville) rounded out the top-three finishers with a 78.
The Boys 10-12 Division was filled with quality play as the entire top ten finished with a score of 78 or better. Champion Hugh Faulkner (Greenville) brought home a commanding six-shot victory, as he tied for the lowest score of the day with 65. Charles Cauthen (Columbia) posted an even-par 34 on his second nine holes to capture runner-up honors with a 71. Will Ruth (Moore) finished third in a logjammed leaderboard with a score of 73.
Alexia Milbrandt (Hilton Head Island) took a four-shot lead into the afternoon round in the Girls 12 & Under division, and kept a commanding lead throughout the entire nine holes, posting an 80 for a five-shot victory. Summer Carey (Manning) posted 85 to finish in second place, and Karsyn Herron (Graniteville) finished in third place with 88.
The SCJGA would like to thank Columbia Country Club for hosting an event that is such a staple in the yearly schedule and for their continued support of junior golf throughout the state.
