Greenville, S.C. – Breaking through the clouds, rays of sunshine cast down on the rollings hills of Greenville Country Club’s Chanticleer course as competitors began the final round of the Morgan Lucas Championship Presented by Bell, Carrington, Price and Gregg – Attorney at Law. While brisk winds kept players on their toes – our new champions showed they were able to withstand a plethora of elements in their rise to the top.
Holding onto his lead from round one, Zach Adams of Charleston captured the boys division title of the championship with a final round, one over par, 73 and a four shot cushion over field. Adams, a 2022 graduate, again got hot on the front nine, carding two birdies right from the start on hole 1 and 2 to begin his trek to the winner’s circle. When asked about his round, Adams expressed ” (I) hit a lot of fairways and greens, keeping the ball in play and giving myself a chance each hole.” This game plan would help Adams not only snag the win, but also boost his confidence as he heads into the 2019 season.
Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach would spring into the top 3, posting an even par, 72 to take second place. Vaugh started the day strong, firing a three under, 33 – falling a few shots on the back nine – but able to squeeze by Braeden Barnett of Galivants Ferry who shot the low round of the day with a one under, 71 to finish in third place.
Making her front nine very eventful, MK Talledo of Spartanburg held on to her lead and was crowned the girls division champion. Talledo would card four birdies, one bogey and two doubles on her front nine – regroup on her back nine and card six pars to help claim her title. When asked how this win will help her season, Talledo immediately said ” It gives me the confidence to know I can win and hopefully have more wins throughout the year.”
Making a comeback from her round one, 81 – Emily Dunlap of Greenville fired the low round of the day at two- over, 74 to slide into second place alone. Dunlap carded an even par, 36 on her final nine holes to edge third place finisher Peyton Gillespie of Greenville.
