Greenville, S.C. – Cold, rain and with a side of bitter were on the menu for round one of the Morgan Lucas Championship Presented by Bell, Carrington, Price and Gregg | Attorney at Law at Greenville Country Club Chanticleer course. Competitors were welcomed to the course with conditions that forced a meticulous approach – pushing patience and stamina to battle the elements.
Surging to the top after blistering the front nine with a -5 under 31 – Zach Adams of Charleston takes the lead of the boys division. Adams wouldn’t let the conditions let him falter, finishing the back nine just three over after carding a triple on the par-4 11th hole. When asked what he would credit for his stellar round today, Adams with no hesitation said his putter. Adams will take a small lead into the final round as Lexington’s Dillon Hite will be right on his heels after he posted 1-under 71. Hite carded four birdies and one bogey on the back nine to slide into solo second place.
In the Girls Division, Spartanburg’s MK Talledo holds a two shot lead heading into the final round after posting a three over, 75 in round one. Talledo carded three birdies on her round in her trek to the lead, finishing her back nine at even par giving her confidence to take into Sunday’s round. Greenville’s Peyton Gillespie will look to make a run at the winner’s circle in the final round of the championship. Gillespie carded two birdies on her final nine holes to hold Talledo’s lead to only a couple of shots.
