ISPS Handa’s Heroes to be played the Monday following the CME Group Tour Championship

C4S_Daniel111810_150538a_8colDAYTONA BEACH, Fla., November 21, 2014 – The third annual ISPS Handa Heroes, a nine-hole, made-for-TV charity event honoring golf philanthropist Dr. Haruhisa Handa, will be played on Monday, Nov. 24 at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Fla., a day after the conclusion of the 2014 CME Group Tour Championship.

The team scramble tournament will recognize Dr. Handa for his philanthropic commitment and dedication to women’s golf around the world, while also furthering his goal of charity support through golf.

The nine-hole scramble will feature three teams of three consisting of one current LPGA star, one LPGA Legend and, for the first time in the event’s three year history, a recent Symetra Tour graduate.

The star-studded group players accounts for five Symetra Tour wins, 71 LPGA Tour victories and eight major championships. The tournament will air Sunday, Nov. 30, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on Golf Channel and will feature live interviews throughout the competition. The event will replay again from midnight to 2:30 a.m. ET.

Each team has designated primary charities of their choice and will be playing for a total of $90,000 in charitable donations. The winning trio will be awarded $60,000 for charity, while the remaining teams will earn $15,000 each. So each player will be able to donate at least $5,000 to their favorite charity. Below are the pairings and their charities for the third annual ISPS Handa Heroes:

  • Lexi Thompson/Beth Daniel/Sadena Parks (Wounded Warriors/Player Assistance Fund at the South Carolina Golf Association/Leisure Hour Golf)
  • Jessica Korda/Sherri Steinhauer/Jackie Stoelting (The First Tee of Sarasota/The First Tee of South Central Wisconsin/Indian River Golf Foundation)
  • Sandra Gal/Meg Mallon/Marissa Steen (Orphans Heart/Mercy High School/The First Tee of Greater Miami Valley)

Dr. Handa is a devoted golf supporter who has played a significant role in showcasing the women’s game around the globe. ISPS, the organization that he founded in 2006 to support charitable causes throughout the sporting world, currently sponsors more than a dozen professional golf events worldwide. Among those include, the ISPS Handa World Cup on the men’s European Tour, The Handa Cup and the ISPS Handa Legends Tour Open Championship on the Legends Tour and the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open on the LPGA Tour, won in 2014 by Karrie Webb.
