467We here at the SCJGA keeps close tabs on our former players on the various tours. This week proves to be a very key week for Greenwood’s Ben Martin. Here is a breakdown by his dad, Jim Martin concerning the tournament and Ben’s status for next years PGA Tour:

Ben currently stands at #2 on the yearlong Web.com Tour
money list, while he is #8 on the Playoffs money list.

The yearlong money list is important because, if Ben can
surpass Michael Putman in total earnings, he’ll most likely
be voted Web.com Tour Player of the Year. He has a chance
to win the award without passing Michael, but, if he does
pass Michael, his chances are much better.

The Player of the Year award is voted on by the Web.com Tour
players. Winning the award is an honor by itself, but it would
put also Ben in a better position for “sponsors’ exemptions”
into some of next year’s PGA Tour events that he is might
otherwise be unable to get in to.

As for the playoffs money list, that’s another story. Ben has
already made enough money to be assured that he will play
in the four fall PGA Tour events. (As for the PGA events starting
in January, Ben’s status for those events will be determined by
how well he plays in the four fall tournaments). However, if Ben
happens to win the playoffs money list, he will become fully
exempt for the 2013/14 PGA Tour. This means, instead of only
being able to play in about 18-20 tournaments, he’d be eligible
for about 30 tournaments. This would allow him to pick and
choose which events he wanted to play in, instead of only
getting into the events that his “reshuffle’ status gets him in to.

In order to win the money list, two things have to happen.
First, Ben would have to win the tournament, and, two, Trever
Immelman and Andrew Svobota would have to finish lower than solo
2nd place. If those two things happen, Ben would win both the yearlong
money list and the playoffs money list. Some folks would probably
call that a pretty good year.
