What really goes on at the SCJGA offices

I guess one of my favorite questions I get at tournaments each year is “You do this full time?”, I usually just chuckle and say “yep”. Of course we do not run events/tournaments everyday, but it seems like each year we add something to our calendar or schedule.

When we are in the office we handle our memberships and tournament applications that come in the mail. People stop by and donate clubs and balls, so we must sort through those and put them in our storage. On the other hand, we also outfit any junior that stops by our office who is in need of clubs. Chris Miller spends a lot of his time working on the Heritage Classic Foundation rankings, entering in all the tournaments and fielding phone calls from parents. Justin and Bennett are working Golf In Schools and our development series such as the Team Series in the winter months.

Once a year some of us go to USGA/PGA Rules school which is a 3 day seminar followed by a 100 question exam on the fourth day. There are always committees and meetings that must be attended. Next week after the Bobby Chapman, we will have our 2nd annual SCJGA planning session here in the office. That is time we use as a staff to evaluate the effectiveness of our programs and see what could be changed to improve the experience for our SCJGA families.

During the writing of this blog, I have had to help someone retrieve their log in information for TPP, been a part of a conference call concerning the Fall Challenge and had to call Moree’s Cheraw C.C. to work out some details following that call. In fact, I will have to finish this piece up get back to work. I need to go to the Post Office and pick up our mail, then I will come back and process any apps that came in today and make a few adjustments to our website. Then it will be all focused on preparing for the Bobby Chapman in Spartanburg this weekend.
