DSC_0712aAs a second year USGA Intern and South Carolinian I consider myself very fortunate to be involved with “Golf in Schools” here in the state and with the SCJGA.  Just like anything else the future of the game thrives off of our youth.  I was very fortunate to grow up with a family who was heavily involved with golf, the SCGA and SCJGA.   I had a membership at a local club where I could ride my bike and play anytime I felt the need while getting a chance to compete in tournaments ran by our very own SCJGA.  I focused on baseball as a late teenager which led me to play collegiately.  I always knew deep down that my introduction to golf as a kid would be a useful tool later in life.  As baseball faded golf became more of a passion to me than anything I had ever experienced before.  Most kids are not as privileged as I was and do not get the opportunity to be involved with the game.

DSC_0716aOur goal with the “Golf in Schools” initiative is to instill the basic skills while enhancing the fun and love for the game.  We feel that tapping into the school systems around the state will be a stepping stone process of getting kids more involved in the game.  As of this coming fall I will be a GIS instructor and my goal is to share my passion and develop the youth’s in our state.  It is very rewarding to be able to give back to the kids and be responsible for growing the game in my home state.
