Chapin – Carson Joye took the top caddie pick for the Monday After the Masters Pro Am with a 2 under par 69. The top girls pick went to Torey Johnson after she won a one hole playoff over Samantha Buchanon. The SC Junior Golf Association is again very fortunate to have the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association as presenting sponsor. SCADA has a long history of supporting youth oriented programs in SC and they are also a vital part of the SC Junior Golf Foundation’s Golf Week. The membership of Timberlake Country Club was host to the SCJGA for the playing of this statewide championship. Of special note, the club had a “work” day where over thirty members came out worked to beautify the course for the event. Joye fired nines of 34 and 35 to win by one over local Will Starke. Joye and Starke were the only players to finish the event under par. Torey Johnson and Samantha Buchanon finished regulation play tied at 76.
The picturesque 18th par five was the setting for sudden death with Johnson coming out on top. Matt Daniel took the overall honors in the younger boy’s 13-14 bracket. Hartsville’s Claire Brown won the younger girl’s bracket after she finished play with an 84. Boys and girls competed for the coveted positions and will get to choose their “team” based on their stroke play finish. The players will have the opportunity to get close to today’s celebrities, professional athletes, and stars of the PGA Tour. In sixteen years, the Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Pro-Am has raised over 4.5 million dollars for charity revolving around children specific causes. Educational entities, junior golf, and many other youth programs benefit each year from the hard work done by the band, board, and many volunteers of the tournament.
