Blustery conditions combined with cold weather made for tough scoring in the final round of the SCJGA Pee Wee Championship. With a final round of 39, Jimmy Self successfully defended his 2008 overall boys title while Kelli Murphy took the overall girls honors. The membership of Greenwood Country Club has hosted the event since inception with play conducted on the opening cedar nine.
Self played the 2,573 yard track in 3 over par for the day when scores were much higher due to weather conditions. His margin of victory was one shot over Nick Cortez and Will Strickland. Murphy fired a final round 41 to win the girls title over Savannah Goodman. Goodman posted three birdies in her final round to draw close, but Kelli stayed on task to win by four shots.
Harrison Corbin stayed on top in the boys 8-9 group with 78 total, two shots clear of his nearest competitor. Jensen Castles won the cutest division, the girls 8-9 flight, with a final round 54. Pretty impressive play for the West Columbia native as she just turned 8 years old on the first day of the golf tournament.
