CHERAW, SC - 68 junior golfers arrived at Cheraw State Park Golf Course on Tuesday morning for the opening round of the Players Series at Cheraw State Park. Inclement weather forced a two-hour delay in the middle of play, but the first round was completed at approximately 7:00 P.M.

In the Boys 13-18 division, Anderson’s Cade Olsommer posted a round of two-under par 70 to take a one-stroke lead into Wednesday’s final round. Olsommer played a flawless front nine, making birdies on four of the first seven holes of his round.

 

Conway’s Carson Jordan, who claimed the Players Series at Crowfield in June of 2022, sits one-stroke behind the lead after a round of one-under par 71. Sawyer MacLean of Simpsonville will join Olsommer and Jordan in Wednesday’s final pairing as he carded a round of one-over par 73.

 

Familiar faces are sitting atop the leaderboard in the Girls 13-18 division through round one, with Graniteville’s Karsyn Herron holding a two-stroke advantage over Ella Kate Barnett of Galivants Ferry and Reese Richardson of Aynor. Herron posted an opening round of five-over par 77, while Barnett and Richardson each carded seven-over par 79.

 

Wednesday’s final round is set to begin at 8:00 A.M.

In February of 2022, the South Carolina Junior Golf Association announced a brand-new tournament series called the Players Series that is designed to give junior golfers from South Carolina the opportunity to develop their skills and earn exemptions into future Major Championships hosted by the SCJGA. The Players Series schedule begins with the Fripp Island Junior Challenge in early February and consists of 15 different tournaments by the end of 2023.

 

All Players Series events are included in the Heritage Classic Foundation Rankings, as well as the year-long Players Series points standings, which will reward players with exemptions into future SCJGA Major Championships based on the standings at the conclusion of the year. All Players Series events are included in the year-long points race, as well as all statewide SCJGA One-Days such as the President’s Day One Day.
