This morning, The Country Club of Charleston welcomed 84 of the country’s top male and female junior golfers for the first round of the 16 th Beth Daniel Junior Azalea.

In the boys 13-18 division, Jack Crousore of Bluffton, South Carolina fired an impressive round one score of seven-under par 64 to take the first-round lead. He had eight birdies today and holds a one-shot lead heading into round two tomorrow.

“I started off by slicing it left into the trees on #1,” Crousore said. “But I managed to make like a 6 footer for par and it was pretty clean from there the whole day. I’m just going to try and keep doing the same thing tomorrow, pick the pins to be aggressive too, don’t force anything and let it come naturally."

Thomas Horne of Fayetteville, North Carolina sits in second in the boys division finishing the day at six-under par 65.

Jenna Madden of McKinney, Texas and Mary Miller of Savannah, Georgia each posted a first-round score of one-under par 71 to co-lead the girls 13-18 division.

“My round was pretty solid today,” Madden said. “I hit the ball well and hit a lot of fairways and greens. I’m going to stick to the same game plan moving forward, stay patient, try to make pars and take the birdies when they come.”

“My driver was really good today,” Miller said. “My irons were also really good but I just didn’t make any putts. I’m going to try and putt better tomorrow but just keep ball striking the same.”

Kathryn DeLoach of Athens, Georgia carded a round one score of even-par 72 to hold the solo third place position heading into round two.

The second round of the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea begins Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 9:00 A.M. off #1 and #10.
