ANDERSON, SC (Oct. 14, 2023) – First round results of the 3rd Annual Jackie Seawell Junior Championship hosted by Cobb's Glen Country Club in Anderson, SC on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

This morning, Cobb’s Glen Country Club welcomed 139 players for the third edition of the Jackie Seawell Junior Championship.
In the boys 10-12 division, Pete Revis of Greenville and Will Miller of Spartanburg each posted first round scores of two-over par 38 after nine holes to sit tied for the lead heading into the final round.
Grayson Cunningham of Beech Island sits one-shot behind the co-leaders to hold solo third going into the final round in this division.
Elin Sarstrand of Spartanburg and Zoey Meldrum of Aiken sit tied for the lead in the girls 10-12 division, each finishing the day with round one scores of seven-over par 43 after nine holes.
Maya Sarstrand of Spartanburg holds the solo third place position in this division carding a first-round score of nine-over par 45.
Bennett Scaletta of Belton leads the boys 13-15 division by one-shot, posting two-under par 70 for round one. He had six birdies in his round.
Jude Sword of Hollywood sits alone in second place shooting one-over par 71 in his opening round.
In the girls 13-15 division, Mia Carles of Clinton holds the round one lead, finishing the day at four-over par 76.
Karsyn Herron of Graniteville sits two shots behind Carles to hold solo second in this division heading into the final round.
Jackson Scaletta of Belton leads the boys 16-18 division, firing an impressive first round score of four-under par 68. He had six birdies today and holds a one-shot lead over Caden Olsommer of Anderson heading into the final round tomorrow.
The final round of the 3rd Jackie Seawell Junior Championship begins tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. off #1 and #10.
About Jackie Seawell
The Jackie Seawell Junior was created after Mr. Seawell's passing on June 14, 2021, to honor him and his contributions to golf in Anderson, Aiken, and the state of South Carolina.The SCJGA is honored to be able to help administer a tournament named after one of our state’s great golf ambassadors.
Jackie Seawell, a native of Anderson, was the first golf professional at Cobb's Glen Country Club in Anderson. During his long and successful career, he had a major and lasting impact on junior golf in Anderson and the state of South Carolina. He was dedicated to the game of golf and had a true passion for teaching and growing the game.
Mr. Seawell attended Anderson Boys' High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina. At Boys' High, he served as student body president and was MVP of the football and golf teams. He was a member of the Boys' High 1959 state championship team. At the University of South Carolina, he was a four-year letterman and captain of the golf team. He won the 1964 South Carolina Intercollegiate individual title and led the Gamecocks to the 1964 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
After leaving Anderson, Mr. Seawell was the golf professional at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, director of golf at Sage Valley in Aiken and then became of the owner of Houndslake Country Club in Aiken.
Mr. Seawell received numerous awards and recognitions during his career. He was a member of the T.L. Hanna Athletics Hall of Fame, received the Thomas Hitchcock and William C. Whitney Palmetto Golf Club Award, the Golf Week Father of the Year Award, the University of South Carolina Department of Athletics Extraordinary Contributions Award and was honorary captain of the South Carolina PGA Palmetto Cup team. In 1998, Mr. Seawell was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in recognition of his service to golf, the thousands of lives he impacted and his many accomplishments.

The purpose of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association is to continue the history and traditions of the ancient game of golf through its members and an active outreach to the youth of our state. Established in 1990 by community leaders with a love for the game and a commitment to passing on golf’s heritage to the youth of South Carolina, the SCJGA is committed to meeting the needs of all young people in the state and providing playing opportunities to boys and girls that might not otherwise have the chance to experience golf and its many benefits.
