GOOSE CREEK, SC (Jan. 16, 2024) – First on the docket for the 2024 season saw the introduction of the  Bobby D. Junior Classic  held at Crowfield Golf Club. In the tournament’s inaugural showing, 90 junior golfers were greeted with frosty mornings and warm afternoons only typical for a January in South Carolina.  

 

In the Girls 13-18 division,  Riley Batson  (Conway, SC)   and  Allie Thomas  (Aiken, SC) found themselves tied atop the leaderboard at the conclusion Monday’s final round. With both players exhibiting excellent play and perseverance, one more hole was necessary to determine the victor. Batson would go onto win the single-hole playoff with a score of par, crowning her the  Bobby D. Junior Classic  Girls Champion. 

 

 

In the Boys 13-18 Division, Greer native,  Alex Franklin  found himself the only player under-par come the conclusion of play. His impressive play proved consistent between both rounds, boasting seven birdies and only four bogies throughout the tournament. Recording a tournament total of three under-par (141), Franklin would be crowned champion over runner-up  Landry Williams  of Bluffton, SC.

About the SCJGA Players Series

 

In February of 2022 ,  the South Carolina Junior Golf Association announced a brand-new tournament series called the Players Series that is designed to give junior golfers from South Carolina the opportunity to develop their skills and earn exemptions into future Major Championships hosted by the SCJGA. The Players Series schedule begins with the Fripp Island Junior Challenge in early February and consists of 15 different tournaments by the end of 2023. 

 

All Players Series events are included in the Heritage Classic Foundation Rankings, as well as the year-long Players Series points standings, which will reward players with exemptions into future SCJGA Major Championships based on the standings at the conclusion of the year. All Players Series events are included in the year-long points race, as well as all statewide SCJGA One-Days such as the President’s Day One Day.
