Ninety Six, SC—The Patriot GC at Grand Harbor played host to a few exciting finishes and tons of quality golf in the final round of the Thomas D. Todd All-Stars Championship. Logan Hawkins (Williamston) was the victor in both the Overall Boys and Boys 15-18 age divisions, firing a 69 today to capture the title and punch his ticket to the 2020 Watson Cup as part of Team South Carolina. Major Lenning (Simpsonville) emerged victorious in a tight competition in the Boys 13-14 age group, matching his first round score of 71 to win by two shots.
The Girls 13-18 Division was captured by a member of the Carles family for the third consecutive year, with Sofia Carles (Clinton) shooting a 74 on Sunday to win by eight shots over her sister, Phoebe. The Girls 10-12 and 7-9 divisions saw two runaway victories by Londyn Rath (Spartanburg) and Sierra Schulze (Anderson), respectively.
The round of the day and weekend belonged to Harrison James (Chapin), who used six birdies on the back nine to card a final-round 30, and won the title by one shot over Mason Kucia (Indian Land). In the Boys 7-9 age bracket, Davis Petty (Spartanburg) successfully defended his title from 2018 with a 35 on Sunday, which totaled him at five-under par 67 for the weekend.
The Chapter Standings came down to two close finishes, which seemed to be a theme for the tournament. Chip Ridley’s Spartanburg Chapter came out victorious in the Boys Standings, and Tommy Pendley’s Piedmont Chapter made it five straight years of winning the Girls Division.
Seabrook Island, S.C. – Overcast skies and a steady breeze greeted players for the final round of the 2019 SCJGA Tommy Cuthbert All-Stars at Seabrook Island Club’s Ocean Winds Course.
The season ending championship from the Hootie & the Blowfish Junior Golf Series featured junior boys and girls from across the lower half of the state. In the Boys 15-18 year old division, Matthew Hutto (Blythewood) fired an even par round of 72 to take the overall boys title and earn a spot on team South Carolina for the 2020 Watson Cup. Pake June (Florence) finished alone in second place and just one shot back with a one over par 73 in the weather shortened event. William Phipps (Florence) and Luis Thompson (Mt. Pleasant) both tied for third finishing 3 shots back.
In the Boys 13-14 division, Dallas Johnson of Mt. Pleasant captured the title after a two over par effort of 74. Johnson finished one shot ahead of fellow Mt. Pleasant Chapter member Luke Walmet. Hilton Head’s Thomas Ford finished solo third with a 76. In the Boys 10-12 division, Charles Cauthen of Columbia fired a two under par 34 to edge Tyler Taber (35) from Mt. Pleasant by one shot. Daniel Donato (Mt. Pleasant) and Luke Parsons (Salley) tied for third with a one over par 37. Landry Williams (Lexington) finished 6 shots ahead of his nearest competitor with a 77 to take the Boys 7-9 division.
On the girls side of things, Camila Burnett (Hilton Head) fired a one over par 73 to take the Girls 13-18 division by five shots. Elizabeth Madden from Columbia finished in second place all alone for the second consecutive year. Columbia’s Caroline Hawkins took the Girls 10-12 title by chipping in for birdie on the last hole. She finished one shot ahead of Alexia Milbrandt (Hilton Head) and two shots ahead of Grace Lindsey (Mt. Pleasant). Kinley Brazell of Columbia took theGirls 7-9 Division by four shots over Harper Hedden of Hilton Head. Effie Hendry (Hilton Head) finished solo third in the Girls 7-9 Division.
The Girls Team Competition resulted in a tie between the Hilton Head and Columbia Chapter. The Columbia Chapter won the Boys Team Competition by 19 shots. As mentioned, Matthew Hutto (Blythewood) has qualified for the South Carolina Team of the 2020 Watson Cup that will take place June 28-July 4, 2020 in Scotland at Royal Burgess Golf Club and Muirfield to compete against a group of junior golfers from Edinburgh and the East Lothian Junior Golf League.
