Goose Creek, SC– 93 competitors took on Crowfield Golf Club in Goose Creek on Monday for the SCJGA’s MLK One-Day. Windy and chilly conditions were the theme of the day as only two competitors broke par on Crowfield’s tricky layout.
Chayse Cool (Goose Creek) took home her maiden SCJGA title with a solid round of five-over par (77) in the day’s toughest conditions. Runner-up Maddie Peake (Pauline) made it interesting down the stretch, pulling within a single stroke with one hole to play. Ultimately, Cool would keep her lead as all scores were posted and claim a two-shot victory in the Girls 13-18 Division.
Bluffton’s Sean Engler was the first player of the day to post a round under par, carding a one-under par round of 71. Engler made three birdies to go along with two bogeys to take the early lead. Logan Lutz (Mount Pleasant) matched the clubhouse lead at 71, forcing a sudden-victory playoff for the championship. Engler’s par on the first playoff hole was good enough for his first SCJGA victory.
The Boys 12 & Under age bracket ended in a tie at five-over par (41) on the challenging front-nine. Woods Weston (Columbia) and Davis Peevy (Charleston) would each claim first place, with Weston coming out on top in a scorecard playoff.
In the Girls 12 & Under division, Sarah Hoffman (Mount Pleasant) displayed a dominant performance, posting a score of 55 to take the title by a dozen strokes.
The SCJGA would like to thank Crowfield Golf Club for hosting the 2021 MLK One Day and for their efforts in growing junior golf in South Carolina.
