CHARLESTON, SC—Eighty-seven of the country’s best junior golfers will compete on the Country Club of Charleston’s esteemed layout on August 11-13, 2020 to decide who will become this year’s champion at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea Presented by Allstate – The Zack Kelly Agency.
Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC) will be looking to defend her title from 2019 and add another tournament victory to her astonishing resume. The Clemson University commit is currently ranked 64th nationally, making her the highest-ranked player in the girls’ field.
While Schuster may be the favorite heading into the event, she will have one of the strongest fields in junior golf to compete against. Molly Hardwick (Lexington, SC) currently sits atop South Carolina’s Heritage Classic Foundation Junior Golf Rankings, and she will look to regain her Beth Daniel Junior Azalea title from 2018. In addition to Hardwick, Adrian Anderson (Murrells Inlet, SC) and Chloe Holder (Williamston, SC) have shown fantastic form this summer and will look to continue their winning ways in Charleston.
The Boys division boasts a stacked field, with SCJGA major champions and highly-ranked players all over the tee sheet. Trey Crenshaw (Lancaster, SC), Drew Harrill (Spartanburg, SC), William Jennings (Greenville, SC), and Major Lenning (Simpsonville, SC) have already acquired some hardware this summer and will look to add to their collections by becoming Junior Azalea champions.
Daniel Brasington (Woodruff, SC) enters the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea as the top-ranked player in South Carolina, and a 2020 major champion in his own right. He will be competing against the likes of North & South Junior Champion Jonathan Griz (Hilton Head Island, SC) and AJGA Taylormade TP5 Junior All-Star Champion Waymon Thomas (Mount Pleasant, SC).
The Beth Daniel Junior Azalea is named after World Golf Hall of Fame Member and Charleston native Beth Daniel. Daniel finished her playing career with 41 professional victories including the 1990 Women’s PGA Championship. Beth’s impressive career and desire to grow the game of golf has led to South Carolina’s highest-ranked female junior golfer being presented with the Beth Daniel Player of the Year award each December.
