Greenville, S.C. – Scorching temperatures once again greeted the field at the 22nd annual Blade Junior Classic at Thornblade Club. As the sun blazed down on the field, two would socially distance themselves from the rest of their competitors in their trek to victory.
Chloe Holder (Williamston) and Alexia Siehl (Fort Mill) began the final round tied at 3-under par. Getting a wake up call early, Holder would begin the day with a bogey and use that as fuel to remember her game plan of staying focused on her game. Holder would do just that and never look back as she distanced herself from the field in her trek to the winner’s circle. Making the turn with a four-shot lead, Holder would end the day six shots ahead of her next competitor and secure the 2020 Girls Division title firing a final round -4 under (68). Siehl would claim the runner-up spot, carding four birdies during her round. Isabella Britt (Chesnee) and Adrian Anderson (Murrells Inlet) would each card an eagle during round two, tying them for third place overall.
Leading after day one, William Jennings (Greenville) noted that as long as he kept playing the way he did on his first 18 holes, the results would take care of themselves. At the beginning of the day, Jennings had the lead by three shots over Daniel Island’s Austin Scott. After firing off three consecutive birdies to begin his final round, Jennings took a significant lead and kept the rest of the field outside of striking distance for the remainder of the day. Jennings carded three under for the round, giving him a final score of nine under. Jennings noted his putting was his key to success in clinching his first SCJGA major title. Rowan Sullivan (Charleston) and Major Lenning (Simpsonville) each carded two under for the tournament, tying for second place overall in the championship.
The Blade Junior Classic would not be possible without the support and continuous efforts of the tournament committee. Over the past 22 years, the committee has helped pushed the mission of philanthropy throughout the upstate – continuing to support not only junior golf throughout the state but various charities within the Upstate. These Charities include: Pediatric Cancer Research at Greenville Children’s Hospital, Camp Courage: a children’s camp for your that cannot attend normal summer camps because of severe medical issues, The Frazee Center, The Kellie Rynn Academy, The First Tee of the Upstate, and the SC Junior Golf Foundation, To learn more about the event, Click Here!
