Carson Young Takes the SCJGA Player of the Year
Irmo-
Champions Tour Player Jay Haas has an award in his honor that recognizes the top male player for the SCJGA. Carson Young has won this prestigious award for the 2012 SCJGA season. The award dates back to 1996 when Gamecock standout Kyle Thompson captured back to back awards.
The December 1st issue of the Heritage Classic Foundation Rankings is the final issue of the year and the top spot at season’s end is the SCJGA Player of the Year. The Heritage Classic Foundation Rankings are based on overall finishes in tournaments across South Carolina and nationwide. Points are compiled from over 200 events conducted over the past twelve months. The Heritage Classic Foundation, general sponsor of The RBC Heritage , is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Dedicated to improving the community and the lives of others, the Heritage Classic Foundation annually donates monies raised from the tournament. Founded in 1987, The Heritage Classic Foundation has generated more than 23 million dollars in charitable donations.
Even though the December 1 Rankings have yet to be finalized, Young has an impressive 500 point advantage over his fellow Clemson Committee, Austin Langdale and can’t be caught. The Pendleton native had one of the most storied senior seasons with victories in the Carolina’s Amateur, Carolina’s Junior Match Play, Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational, and Jay’s own event, the Blade Junior Golf Classic.
Carson Young will be honored at a press conference at Thornblade Club on Thursday, December 6 at 3:00 pm. Jay Haas, the Young Family, and SCJGA staff will be on hand and all junior golf supporters, and members of the media are welcome to attend.
