Charleston, S.C. – New to the event, a third round was graciously awarded to the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea by the Country Club of Charleston making the tournament a 54-hole World Ranked championship. Not new to the event, excitement of the final round. Another beautiful day would welcome players to the course for the one-tee start at the historic venue and host to this year’s Women’s U.S. Open. Going into the day with a tie at the top, it was the girls’ division that would peak the interest of spectators and players. Kayla Bartemeyer (Mount Pleasant, SC) and Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC) would begin the day tied at the top, but after the first hole that would quickly change. Schuster would bogey the first hole but Bartemeyer would 3-putt for double and continue to lose ground. Savannah Hylton (Hilton Head Island, SC) would linger most of the day, applying pressure to Schuster’s lead heading into the back nine. Hylton would card two late bogies in her round and finish the day in third place. Sophia Burnett (Bluffton) would claim the runner-up position, firing a final round 2-under par 69 to edge Hylton by one shot. It would be Schuster that would claim the title of the 2019 Beth Daniel Junior Azalea by four shots over Burnett. A interesting swing of events would take place in the boy’s division, as Zachary Reuland (Rock Hill) came out the gates firing, making birdie on the first hole and making the turn at 4-under par. Reuland would make the turn with an eight shot lead but slowly see that lead become smaller as Lleyton Renner (Simpsonville) would get within close the gap within two shots. With a double-bogey on the par-5 16th hole, followed by a bogey on the par-3 17th hole, Renner would finish the round at 4-under and climb the leaderboard to finish tied for third place with Florence’s Gene Zeigler. Finishing just three shots back, JT Herman (Hilton Head Island) would post a 2-under par, 69 to secure a second place finish. Reuland would ultimately claim the victory, winning by a three stoke margin. Final Results |
