Hartsville, SC— More wind and chilly temperatures were in store for the competitors in Sunday’s final round of the 23rd Annual Players Championship. However, with conditions much less severe than in the first round, better scoring was a common theme across the leaderboard.
Zachary Reuland (Rock Hill) turned his two-shot cushion in the Boys 15-18 division into a 3-shot victory, firing a 2-over 74, and was the lone male competitor under par for the event. Rafe Reynolds (Greenville) captured a runner-up finish by improving eight shots on his first round score, firing a three-under 69, tying the round of the day with Nathan Franks (Roebuck), Mason Tucker (Lancaster), and Pake June (Florence).
Molly Hardwick (Lexington) took the Girls 13-18 age division by three strokes, firing a 1-under 71 and posting 3-under par for the event. Hardwick was the only competitor in the entire field to break par in both rounds, and her victory can be attributed to her dominant performance on the par-5’s at Hartsville Country Club, playing the holes in 11-under par for the weekend, making three eagles and five birdies on the par-5’s. Mackenzie Gallagher (Hilton Head Island) shot a 1-under 71 to take second place at even-par for the event.
Adam Hunt (Columbia) began the day two strokes back of the lead in the Boys 13-14 division, and came to his final hole with a one-shot lead. Hunt then chipped in for eagle on the par-5 ninth for a 1-over 73 to post 3-over par for the tournament. That was good enough for a three-shot victory over David Oliver IV (Pageland) and Tip Price (Greenville).
The SCJGA would like to thank Hartsville Country Club and The French Fry Guys for helping to put on such a successful event.
