Thornblade Club welcomed 122 players this morning for the first round of the Blade Junior Classic. Mason Kucia (Indian Land), Zach Adams (Charleston) and Mount Pleasant’s Sam McMillan stand in a tie at the top spot, each posting four-under 67 for the round. Six players finished the day three-strokes behind the leaders, each posting one-under 70 to stand T4 for round one.

Taylor Reaves of Conway and Greenville native, Olivia Pellerin, emerged round one co-leaders in the girls 13-18 division, each posting one-over par 73 for the round. Paige Paolucci of Blythewood stands solo third in this division with a score of two-over par for the day.

The boys 10-12 division had its fair share of drama, with Spartanburg’s Davis Petty and Connor Wolfe of Blythewood finishing their rounds tied at four-under par 68. A sudden victory playoff was needed to crown a champion and Petty took home the title with a four on the tricky 18th hole to win his first Blade Junior Classic title.

Clinton’s Mia Carles overcame a four-stroke deficit through nine holes, with a back nine 39 to climb into the winner’s circle in the girls 10-12 division. Kinley Brazell (Blythewood) was Carles’ closest challenger, finishing two-strokes behind at ten-over par 82.

Through a continued effort to support junior golf, the 2021 tournament will mark the start of The Blade’s support of the Dick and Lucille Hendley Scholarship Fund. Through partnering with the Hendley family, one male and female Blade participant who exemplifies great character, a passion for community service and a desire to excel in the classroom will be eligible to receive scholarship assistance. In 1999, The Blade Junior Golf Classic was founded by a group of Thornblade Club members with a passion for creating the best junior golf tournament experience for junior golfers and their families. After 20 plus years, a dedicated board of directors and a team of generous sponsors, The Blade has developed into one of the most premiere tournaments in junior golf. Since its inception, The Blade has sought to provide support for local charities, having donated nearly $1.5 million to charities such as the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation, Prisma Children’s Hospital and Camp Courage, The FRAZEE Center, and 1st Tee of the Upstate, among others.
